Superbowl Down Under

NO NEW COMMERCIALS!!!!!!! I know, it is a major tragedy!!! The Superbowl was not the same at all without all the new and funny commercials, so I hope I didn't miss too many good ones. I guess I can always check them out online.

I ended up going downtown to the Crown Plaza Casino and hung out in The Steakout to watch the game. I was amazed at how many Australians were there (a lot looked like they came right from work and actually drank and stayed for the whole game...I wonder if they went back to work afterwards?!?) and I also found all the other 100 American tourists currently in Melbourne. Since I think it was just about the only public bar showing the football game in Melbourne, everyone was there. I of course was probably the only person there alone, but it actually turned out pretty good because I chatted with the four other Australians in my "sitting area". Then there were two other guys sitting on the other side of us. One was an American and a Seattle fan. The other guy was Australian and didn't know much about the game, so it was fun to hear and be able to answer his questions. So since I wasn't watching it for the commercials anymore, I actually paid attention to the game - what a shocker! I miss American sports - cricket is getting old, so I can't wait for the Australian footy to start at the end of the month.

After the game, I walked around the city and just checked things out. It was nice to just walk around and see the "lay of the land." It was really busy though since it was Monday and everyone was back to work and out on the town. Not as busy as Sydney, but still pretty packed. Yup, I'm not a city person. I guess maybe if I worked downtown and wasn't always just walking around, it might be different. But as a tourist, I prefer to stay away from town. Luckily, I have seen Melbourne before, so I can check out the surrounding areas more in the next few days. Oh that reminds me...I am hiring a car tomorrow (that's what they say when you rent a car)! Yes, look out, I will be driving on the wrong side of the road tomorrow - in a stick shift - wish me luck!!! If there are no more blogs...it didn't go so well... :)

Ok, you know that UNI is going to ask if you put hypo-allergenic seat covers on the 'hired' car ;)

Sadly you didn't really miss any good commercials for this superbowl, it was one of the few years I actually watched for the game and not the commercials.

Use your horn liberally and scare a few runners while your at it!
